A Dutch port has opened what is claimed to be the largest solar farm in The Netherlands.
The 30MW site was developed by German firm Wirsol for Gronigen Seaports’ Delfzijler harbour in Oosterhorn.

“The inauguration of the Solarpark Sunport Delfzijl is the start of a long-term and successful partnership with Groningen Seaports,” said Peter Vest, CEO of Wirsol’s parent company Wircon. “For Wirsol, the Sunport Delfzijl solar park is an important showcase project in the Netherlands. With the project, we can show as project managers that we are also playing a role in growing the Dutch market for renewable energy,” he added.
The project was constructed as part of the Dutch government’s Green Deal, which removes barriers for renewable projects and energy efficiency measures in return for pledged emission reductions from signatories.
Businesses, municipalities and even citizens can take part in a Green Deal agreement.
