Starwood Energy Group Global announced on January 7 that its affiliate, Starwood SSM1 Canada, had finalized agreements to finance and construct a 20MW solar PV project in Ontario. Q-Cells has confirmed that it will deliver the two 10MW systems required for the project.
The project will be located in the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, contracted under the Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program (RESOP) developed and overseen by the Ontario Power Authority (OPA). The system will connect to the local utility, PUC Distribution. Construction financing for the project will come from Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale (Nord/LB).
As well as being in control of the main construction of the project, Starwood SSM1 will provide equity financing for the facilities. The company recently acquired the project from Pod Generating group, the original developer of the project. Pod was awarded a 20-year PPA under the OPA's RESOP.

The project, when complete, will rank among the largest solar energy installations in North America.
