SPI 2013: Panasonic displays special order double bifacial HIT module

Panasonic Eco Solutions North America is displaying its new ‘HIT Double’ bifacial solar panel ‘VBHN225DA02’ at Solar Power International 2013.

The HIT Double will be exhibited as a reference model and special order-based product, designed to allow power generation from both sides of the solar cell.

Panasonic HIT Double has a double-sided glass structure with laminated HIT solar cells inside. This structure allows the solar panel to capture sunlight and generate power from both sides of the solar panel, which is claimed by the company to potentially generate up to 30% more electricity than the standard single-sided HIT module under the same conditions. 

“HIT Double is ideal for awnings, canopies, skylights, trellises and carports, as it features incredible power generation and also has a strikingly beautiful appearance,” said, Atsushi Yoshida, senior manager for Panasonic Eco Solutions North America. “We expect to serve both the residential and commercial markets with this high-efficiency product.”

The company first introduced the double bifacial HIT solar panel in 2012 for the US and European markets, later followed that year with availability in Japan.
