Leading Chinese polysilicon manufacturer Daqo New Energy has started work on phase two of its new facility in Shihezi, Xinjiang. The official ground-breaking ceremony was hosted by the chairman of Daqo’s board, Xu Guangfu, and attended by his fellow board members, senior management and local government officials. Manufacturing will begin in the second half of 2012, with an initial capacity of 3,000 metric tonnes.
“The Shihezi, Xinjiang phase two project will play a key role in our future development.” Daqo’s chief executive officer, Gongda Yao, said. “With its favorable electricity cost and strong government support, we intend to utilise the strategic advantage of this site for our future polysilicon production expansion in order to meet our customers’ ever growing demand.”
