Enfinity has begun development on three solar PV projects in California and also announced that work is underway on its 36MWp Stardale installation in East Hawkesbury, Ontario. The California projects include solar installations for the City of Parlier, Greenfield Union School District (GUSD) and the Muroc Joint Unified School District (MJUSD). The three projects combined will have a yearly energy generation of 4 million kWh and over 80 million kWh throughout the next twenty years. Enfinity will supply the financing and development services for all the California projects.

“These projects represent the first of a series of carefully developed and financed solar installations that we nurtured throughout 2010,” said Mark Domine, Enfinity's vice president of development for distributed generation on the West Coast. “As the year progresses, we expect to launch more projects as part of Enfinity's continuing growth in North America.”

The 490kWp City of Parlier ground-mount installation will use 2,130 solar panels to help compensate electrical costs at the city’s water waste treatment facility. The project has a predetermined rate for the solar power delivered during the installations 25-year term. Operation is scheduled to begin this June.

Greenfield Union School District will see Enfinity install 9,500 solar modules on ten of the district’s school campuses in order to complete the 2.2MWp installation. Solar modules will be located on rooftops, ground areas and parking lots, all of which are scheduled to be up and running by November.

Finally, the MJUSD, located in the Mojave Desert, will rely on the electricity from a 392kWp combined ground-mounted installation. The system will be constructed with 1,666 solar panels and is set to begin operations by the end of January.

In Ontario, Enfinity Canada is overseeing the installation of the 36MW Stardale system. The company also indicated that it is preparing to announce further PV projects later this month.

“It's a good start to the year”, says Enfinity's managing director Chris Young, “But Ontario is still facing challenges when it comes to completing solar projects. For many solar developers in Ontario, the problem is that once they have a project permitted, they often lack the technical expertise to effectively execute,” said Young. “This limits the ability to finance a project and can delay its progress by months, if not years.”

Young continued, commenting on how experience in financing and development can make or break a solar installations move from planning to actual execution. “For many solar developers in Ontario, the problem is that once they have a project permitted, they often lack the technical expertise to effectively execute, and this limits the ability to finance a project and can delay its progress by months, if not years. Enfinity's international track record is proving to be very attractive to financing institutions in Ontario – we believe our approach and experienced team can bring many projects to fruition in a very short period of time. Accordingly, we are looking throughout our province and North America to acquire commercial solar projects from 500kW to 25MW and above. “
