French energy major Engie has commissioned two solar projects in India, the 250MW Khaba project in Rajasthan and the 200MW Khavda project in Gujarat.

The addition of 450MW of operational solar capacity to Engie’s Indian portfolio brings its total capacity in the country to over 2GW, including projects under construction.

The 250MW Khaba project, in Barmer, Rajasthan, was developed through Khaba Renewable Energy Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Engie. The project is expected to generate approximately 650GWh of electricity annually.

Meanwhile, the 200MW Khavda solar project is located within the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat’s Rann of Kutch. Developed through Enren II Energy Private Limited, the project will supply electricity to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA). It is expected to generate approximately 350GWh of electricity annually.

Engie said approximately 80% of the construction workforce for the two projects was hired locally, contributing to regional economic activity.

Engie’s global renewable energy and storage capacity stands at approximately 57-59.5GW, forming part of its total energy portfolio of more than 103GW. Solar accounts for around 11% of its global renewable capacity. The company said it aims to add an average of 7GW of renewable capacity annually to reach 95GW of installed renewable energy and storage capacity by 2030.

In India, Engie has a renewable portfolio of more than 2.3GW across 22 solar and wind projects, of which approximately 1.3GW is operational, with the remainder under construction or development. Its solar assets include the 250MW Kadapa project in Andhra Pradesh, 200MW Raghnesda project in Gujarat, 140MW Bhadla project in Rajasthan and 75MW Mirzapur project in Uttar Pradesh.

In November 2025, Engie secured a 280MW/560MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project. Additionally, in January 2026, it secured a hybrid project combining 200MW of solar capacity with a 100MW/600MWh battery storage system.
