Global Solar Energy appoints Dr. Urs Schoop as chief technology officer

Global Solar Energy, a manufacturer of high-efficiency Copper Indium Gallium diSelenide (CIGS) solar material and an emerging leader in building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), has announced Dr. Urs Schoop as the company’s new chief technology officer (CTO). As CTO, Dr. Schoop will leverage his extensive expertise in the research and development of CIGS solar cell production.

Prior to his appointment Dr. Schoop was the director of Global Solar’s R&D department where he helped the company improve cell efficiency and cell production. Prior to joining Global Solar, Dr. Schoop was a senior scientist with American Superconductor in Boston, Massachusetts where he scaled processes and equipment from the R&D stage up to production for thin-film superconducting wire. He has been active in the thin-film industry and academia for more than 15 years.
