The rapid growth of the photovoltaic industry has led to the development and introduction of numerous new materials for PV applications. Specifically, the increase demand in PV backsheets has reached an all time high, along with the pressure to offer more cost effective solutions. With safety and reliability being the primary requirements, new materials that do not have a long history of performance in PV applications need to undergo extensive testing. The standard warranty for solar panels is 25 years; Backsheets prevent degradation and provide long term durability for the module by protecting the backside from moisture, UV, heat, chemicals, and fire.

Solution

Madico’s Protekt Backsheets have been developed specifically for the PV industry. Protekt technology has a fluoro-polymer base with performance enhancing additives that have undergone extensive internal and third party testing to validate and certify backsheet performance to exceed industry standards. This ensures that the backsheets perform at the highest level, providing safety for the life of the panel. Protekt has undergone testing to meet UL certification in the area of flame resistance and electrical insulation. Protekt is a thin backsheet that boasts the highest in dielectric strength. Protekt has also under gone extensive Damp Heat testing, exceeding the 1000 hour industry standard set by UL and TUV.

Applications

Protekt Backsheets are available to protect crystalline silicone and thin-film solar modules

Platform

Protekt can be ordered in customized rolls or sheets. Protekt is UL recognized; UL tested according to UL 746A UL Standard for Safety Polymeric Materials – Short Term Property Evaluations and 746B Standard and Safety of Polymeric Materials. Certification received for ASTM E 162 & D257 by third party. TUV Certified for IEC 60664 and in compliance with IEC 612515 and IEC 61730.
