The Alberta government is investigating a proposal for the province’s first solar farm that could power 50% of government operations.

The US is leading the charge for solar in North America, but its next-door neighbours, Canada and Mexico, are also pressing ahead with plans to boost deployment. Danielle Ola reports on the policy developments expected to underpin the growth of solar in the two countries.

The Canadian province of Alberta has established a C$5 million (US$3.6 million) fund for municipal and agricultural solar.

A new set of renewable energy guidelines and targets set down by the government of Alberta, known as the Climate Leadership Plan, has been introduced in order to push the province’s transition from coal to new green energy options.
