South Africa’s solar industry has welcomed new government plans to purchase 6.8GW of additional renewables from independent power producers as of 2022, but warned that an “urgent response” is needed to tackle the country’s ongoing energy crisis.
Newly selected winners will bring 460MW of solar and nearly 3GWh of energy storage to Aloha State, a fleet of 16 projects across Oahu, Maui and Hawaii Island.
The deal, which Dominion says is largest ever brokered by a US state government, comprises four different solar projects set to come online before 2023, as well as one wind project.
Brazil’s energy agency EPE has set an 18 December date for the A-4 energy auction, which includes the potential of 20-year PPAs for wind, solar and biomass along with 30-year PPAs for hydro.
