An agreement between Oerlikon Systems and Meyer Burger to collaborate on the distribution of the recently launched single wafer sputter Solaris system has been signed, which will see the companies market the system on a global scale. This move will see Meyer Burger provide sales and customer support for the system in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas while also paving the way for the two companies to perform collaborative research into anti-reflective coating developments.

With a range of further Solaris-related applications in mind for the future, such as touch panels for consumer applications; ‘green energy’ thermoelectric applications and energy storage devices, Oerlikon is looking to develop several more innovative process steps to improve the cell manufacturing process.

“Meyer Burger’s focus, strength and experience in the crystalline silicon PV market will enable us to reach out to cell manufacturers faster & more efficiently,” said Andreas Dill, Head of Oerlikon Systems. “Furthermore, we see significant synergies by leveraging Meyer Burger’s capabilities in automation, wafer & cell measurement tools and – last but not least – with Meyer Burger’s expertise in wafer surface design.”
