Organic solar cell technology will be under scrutiny October 15-16, when the OPV Summit 2009 event convenes in Boston. The two-day conference will be attended by industry players including NREL, Konarka Technologies and Sandia National Laboratories among others, as the challenge continues to increase the conversion efficiency and improve stability and lifetime.

“The OPV material market is just emerging, but forecasts indicate that OPV material makers will quickly see a massive increase in orders. In this context, it is critical to assess all the commercial and technical issues facing the OPV industry today,” said Joshua Bull, spokesperson for event organiser OPV Today.

Covering such key issues as standardisation, OPV market realities, current cell lifetime capabilities and efficiencies, first applications and markets and cost reduction. The Organic Photovoltaics Summit 2009 is intended to provide a forum whereby those interested in organic PV approaches can learn about the technologies available and what needs to be done to further adoption of the technology.

“These are vital topics that need to be addressed now for Organic PV to reach its full market potential. It’s an extremely exciting time for Organic PV, but there are still significant roadblocks to overcome before the massive growth can really take off,” continued Bull.
