The Suntech module brand will stay in use after the long-running acquisition of the firm’s manufacturing arm is completed, Shunfeng executive chairman Zhang Yi has told PV Tech.

In an exclusive interview, Yi said the company planned to focus on power plant development using the Shunfeng brand with the Wuxi Suntech manufacturing plants continuing to produce panels under the famous name.

“Although Wuxi Suntech has been through all the recent drama, it is still well known in the international market, and its products are favoured in western countries. We would keep the brand name, but also attach new meaning and values to it,” said Yi.

“A special mention, in the past Wuxi Suntech has well-established its own brand in the industry, and has built a well-known international brand. Its modules have been installed in over 80 countries,” added Yi.

Shunfeng connected a 50MW power plant in China this week, the first of many before the year’s end Yi said, also estimating that the company will build 3-4GW next year.

Yi said Wuxi Suntech could produce around 2.5GW, but the focus would initially be on improving quality, not ramping up output.

“If the products from Wuxi Suntech are good enough, we would use them; if not, we will update the production in time,” he said.
