NV Energy has been given approval for three separate and long-term purchase power agreements for renewable energy. Given by the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada, the approved agreements will last for the next 25 years.
The consist of a 20MW solar photovoltaic project to be built by American Capital Energy, near Searchlight, Nevada, a 26MW solar photovoltaic project to be built in Apex, Nevada by Renewable Ventures, and an 11MW landfill gas project to be finished by Energenic at the Apex Regional Landfill.

Each power purchase agreement was made following NV Energy’s 2008 Request for Proposals for renewable energy. The contracts will help NV Energy meet the renewable portfolio standard determined by the Nevada State Legislature. The standard asks that 20% of the company’s sales be provided by renewable energy and energy conservation efforts by 2015 and that by 2025 the amount be increased by at least 25%. Collectively, the sites will produce 171,000MWhs of energy per year.
Each site is expected to be in operation by the completion of 2011. The project to be built by American Capital Energy is expected to be finished by next year’s end.
