Activ Solar has completed Phase III of its Perovo Solar Power Station, adding a further 20MW to the system’s size. The total capacity of Perovo now stands at 60MW, and with ramping up still ongoing – and Activ Solar yet to reveal the full size of the plant – it looks set to be one of the largest PV projects in Europe.

With three phases now completed, Perovo, located on Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula, has the potential to generate around 78,500MWh of electricity a year. Over 264,000 mono and multicrystalline modules power the array and these are connected to 80 central inverter stations.

“The Perovo project is further evidence of Activ Solar’s significant commitment to the development of the solar PV industry in Ukraine,” said Activ’s CEO, Kaveh Ertefai. “Our projects continue to transform undeveloped and non-arable areas in the Crimea, giving them productive and sustainable purpose.”

Equipment suppliers for the installation are all tier one companies, and the development has created more than 800 full- and part-time jobs for the local workforce.

This is the second major utility-scale development Activ has undertaken in Ukraine; in October the Austrian company completed its 80MW Okhotnykovo plant.
