The Oman Power and Water Company SAOC (OPWP) has kicked off process for two independent power projects (IPP) with a combined output of 1.1GW.

Solar groups have welcomed Milwaukee-based energy provider We Energies' decision.

The EU has committed to lending €145 million (US$163 million) and the ICO up to €140 million (US$156 million) to the largest solar project under construction in Europe.

The project, financed by US Bank, HSBC, Rabobank and Nord/LB is expected to become operational mid-2020.
