Fulfilling half of the existing 60MW sales agreement between the two companies, Canadian Solar has announced that it has been tapped for 30MW of solar modules from Systaic AG for delivery to Spain. Added to this order is company’s recent signing or reconfirming of sales contracts or extensions that bring the company’s recent sales total to 120MW.

Adding to its ever-growing list of solar projects in California, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has signed off on a 92MW solar thermal deal with Alpine SunTower, LLC, a subsidiary of NRG Energy, Inc. The project builds on eSolar and NRG’s existing collaborative agreement that saw the companies agree to bring around 500MW of solar thermal energy to the U.S.

High-purity metals and compounds supplier 5N Plus, Inc. has amended the materials supply contract with First Solar to run for an extra year to the end of July 2013. The companies have also agreed to increase the minimum amount of cadmium telluride (CdTe) ordered by First Solar by 50%.

Thin-film module manufacturer Sunfilm AG can now boast of five module sizes that have gained IEC certification, with the news that its larger module sizes have now received IEC 61646/EN 61730 certification. The company had been granted certification for two of its smaller module sizes earlier this year.

The first of Xunlight's 25MW wide-web, roll-to-roll photovoltaic manufacturing equipment lines has been fully installed at the company's 122,000-sq-ft facility in Toledo, Ohio, putting the operation on track to begin production of high-efficiency thin-film silicon PV modules. The company’s proprietary roll-to-roll equipment, the first of four systems in the pipeline, has been shown to demonstrate uniform deposition of triple-junction thin-film silicon solar cells.

Greek solar installation company K&M Energy has placed two orders for 108 tracking systems from DEGERenergie for installation in five new solar parks in the south and west of Greece. In the past few weeks, K&M placed two orders with the company – 18 trackers in the initial order, and 90 additional trackers a few weeks later. The 18 5000NT DEGERtrakers have already been delivered, with the 90 recently ordered 5000NT and 7000NT models due for delivery in the near future.

Norwegian renewables company Statkraft has announced that it is on the way to completing its 3.3MW solar power plant later this year. The solar farm is located in Latina, about an hour south of Rome, and will consist of 15,700 solar panels installed in an area of approximately 96,000 square metres. Total investment in the project is said to be approximately €13 million.

LDK Solar Co., Ltd. has passed a milestone in its ingot production with the successful output of a multicrystalline ingot weighing 660kg. The largest ingot produced to date by the company, the block’s weight is an increase of 46.7% on the standard ingot weight of 450kg. The company’s maximum furnace capacity is 800kg.

Opening the doors to the new Wuxi, China-based PV module testing facility, Suntech Power Holdings’ state-of-the-art lab is the first of its kind in China to be awarded the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Witness Testing Data Program (WTDP) Certificate. The 1400m2 (interior) and 7000m2 (exterior testing space) lab features the latest in module testing technology, and, being located at Suntech’s headquarters, is sure to speed up the company’s product marketing.

Trina Solar’s order book has received a boost with the announcement that it has agreed to supply 15MW of modules to PV project developer Enfinity NV. The modules will be delivered to Enfinity within the second quarter of this year, and the deal was signed at Intersolar Munich in May.
