The Cell Award event at Intersolar Munich on May 28 highlighted some of the best tools, technologies and regions from the PV manufacturing elite. The event was initiated to address the need for an independently-judged platform upon which to assess the most successful and esteemed technologies and potentials in the solar industry.

The SEMI PV Group, the special interest group that serves the photovoltaic supply chain, has made available a report on “China’s Solar Future,” prepared by the China PV Advisory Committee, organized by the PV Group, and comprising China PV industry and academic leaders. The report presents specific recommendations for a China PV policy roadmap; in particular, the need for an accelerated adoption of PV generated electric power in China.

Solar integrator Inovateus Solar has announced its plans to install at least 10MW of Uni-Solar modules in the next three years. The company has been a partner of Uni-Solar for the past three years and expressed its intention to install approximately 25MW over the next three years, including the recently announced 10MW.

Located in Kenn in the district of Trier-Saarburg, Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany, the new 5.8MWp PV power plant under construction by Phoenix Solar AG on behalf of the Enovos Group is set for commissioning by the end of July 2009. Phoenix, as planner, builder and engineer, has been working with ground-mounted power plant project developer Bürgerservice Trier, with whom Phoenix has been collaborating since 2007.

Fluor Corporation has entered into the renewables industry with its plan to establish a dedicated renewables business line within its Power Group. The new division will focus on all forms of renewable energy, complementing the company’s existing nuclear, gas fueled, solid fueled and air quality control businesses with lines for solar, wind and biomass.

MEMC Electronic Materials, Inc. has moved to expand it Board of Directors to 10 members with the news that it has added Emmanuel (Manny) T. Hernandez to its Board. Mr. Hernandez retired from his role as CFO at SunPower last November, where he had served for over three years.

Intertech Pira, organisers of the Photovoltaics Summit Europe 2009, to be held at the Crowne Plaza Rome in St Peter’s, Rome from June 30th to July 2nd, has announced its speaker line-up for the event. The Summit will be focused on the European PV markets and will include a half-day pre-conference workshop led by Daniela Schreiber and Markus Wackerbeck from EuPD Research.

With its eye on a nationwide move towards the adoption of solar power generation, Solar Energy Initiatives, Inc. has signed a $6.5 million Letter of Intent for the installation of solar panels on school buildings in western U.S. The panels, the size, capacity and manufacturer of which were not disclosed, are expected to be installed within the next few months.

Satcon Technology Corporation has entered into a supply agreement with Ecostream, a solar system provider and part of sustainable energy company Econcern, for 330MW of solar power products and solutions. The three-year agreement will include delivery of Satcon’s PowerGate Plus line of solar inverters.
