Luxembourg-based manufacturer CNPV Solar Power has completed the first phase of a 10MW module supply deal with Indian steel and textile firm Cheenu Group.
A 2MW solar array at Cheenu’s Coimbatore textile factory will supply power to the factory during power shortages, supporting the company’s ability to expand, it said.

The 2MW installation represents the first phase of a 10MW deal between the two companies. Cheenu Group said its adoption of solar energy was based on growing energy needs and the inability of local power infrastructure to meet those demands.
Prabhu Devarajan, chief executive of Cheenu Group, said: “In the event that the local infrastructure cannot support our power needs, the effects to our business can be catastrophic.
“Our module selection was focussed on quality and performance, and after compiling and comparing the technical features of several manufacturers concluded that CNPV are able to demonstrate the most significant benefits in terms of high quality, energy yield, and long term performance.”
Cheenu Group said its expansion plans would now include solar engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services and module distribution for off-grid solar projects in southern India.
