Georgia Power soliciting 100MW of DG solar

Georgia Power, the largest subsidiary of the utility Southern Company, has launched its 2015/16 Advanced Solar Initiative (ASI) Distributed Generation (DG) programme, soliciting DG projects of varying size up to 100MW.

The firm intends to acquire these solar resources using a combination of competitive bidding and fixed pricing.

Potential applicants are invited to review draft solicitation documents and to provide anonymous comments before 1 June.

Meanwhile, Georgia Power has also started construction of three 30MW solar PV facilities at three separate Army bases throughout the state. The projects, which are owned by Georgia Power, are located at Forts Benning, Gordon and Stewart, cover more than 200 acres each and are scheduled to be completed and begin delivering power to the state's electric grid by the end of 2016.

Georgia is one of the fastest growing solar markets in the US, according to Georgia Power.
