Independent Energy Solutions (IES) has installed a 936kW solar carport at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in southern California. The utility scale system, located at Pendleton's new Bachelor Enlisted Quarters, can generate around 1.3 million kWh of electricity annually.

IES has been developing solar projects for the US military for more than a decade. The carport, built with the help of Harper Construction, is made up of 15 custom steel shade canopies, 4352 Kyocera solar modules, four Satcon inverters and a customized racking system.

“IES has been working with the United States military on a wide range of solar projects for the past decade – everything from high-tech experimental systems to large-scale generation plants such as this… we are so pleased the military and our contracting partners like Harper Construction continue to take advantage of our ability to deliver and self-perform a quality product on-time and on-budget,” IES president and CEO Linda Strand said.

The completion of Pendleton's carport comes just three months after the Marine base commemorated its new Kyocera-built 1.4MW ground-mounted PV system.
