‘InPERC’ technology from RENA and SoLayTec provides customer with 18% cell efficiencies

RENA has said that its inline passivated emitter and rear cell (PERC) processing equipment ‘InPERC’ has achieved solar cell efficiencies at a customer site in China of 18%, without the use of selective emitter cell design.

The InPERC technology undertakes rear-side smoothing, passivation and laser ablation, including SoLayTec’s ‘InPassion’ atomic layer deposition (ALD) tool to provide a key aspect of the efficiency gains, according to the company.

The company said that the Chinese customer adopted the InPERC solution for its high performance pilot line to meet the 18% efficiency requirements for multicrystalline solar cells recently imposed on PV producers by the Chinese Government.
