Kyocera has become the latest beneficiary of the Japanese government’s School New Deal initiative, after it was chosen to install more than 1,200 PV systems in schools across the country. The new installations have consolidated Kyocera’s position as the leading solar supplier to the education sector and its market share now stands at 40%.
The School New Deal was created in 2009 with the aim of bringing school design into the 21st century, through the incorporation of solar power and earthquake-resistant building standards. Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology hope to eventually increase the number of solar power installations in public elementary, middle and high schools to 12,000.
