Long-term cooperation agreements could lead to equipment and project orders worth €2 billion for Gebr. Schmid and Schmid Silicon Technology after a delegation to China under the leadership of Germany’s Minster of Economics, Rainer Bruederle had been held. The agreements are expected to be made with Guodian Electronics Group, Sanmenxia Dijiu Mining and DMEGC Group, the company said.

The deals are primarily for turnkey lines throughout the Groups product offering, which includes polysilicon solar wafer and solar cell lines through to solar module production.

Schmid said that these agreements could include the supply of turnkey factories for the production of polysilcon by using the advanced monosilane process technology, which is claimed to enable greater cost savings over conventional production methods, based on the Siemens process.

Initially, orders are expected to be signed worth €200 million.
