Phoenix Solar is to design and construct what is claimed will be the largest PV installation in Singapore for CMM marketing and management, the distribution arm of one of Singapore’s largest retailers, Sheng Siong.

The 1.2MW project is to be completed by the end of 2013, becoming Singapore’s largest PV installation, according to Phoenix Solar.

The system will cover 11,000 square metres of CMM’s corporate headquarters and centralised distribution centre rooftops, providing 15% of the CMM facility’s electricity.

Phoenix said the CMM system proved the commercial viability of PV in Singapore.

“Thanks to the attractive returns on investment, we expect the installed PV capacity of Singapore to more than double in 2013, reaching at least 20MW by December,” said Christophe Inglin, managing director of Phoenix Solar. “If this growth rate continues, then within a decade, PV will become a mainstream source of electricity in Singapore.”

Lim Hock Chee, CEO of ShengSiong said: “The commercial and environmental returns of this project make it a viable business decision, which will continue to yield benefits for a long time.”
