Premier Power Renewable Energy and Regeneration Finance were recently selected by the Douglas County School District in Colorado to construct 3MW of solar electric power projects at 31 different sites at the school district’s 30 schools and one athletic stadium. The school district signed a PPA with REgeneration, who will own and finance the power projects. Premier Power will be responsible for the project’s design, construction, operation and maintenance.

“We are extremely proud of our partnership with Premier Power and REgeneration Finance,” said John Carson, president, Douglas County School District Board of Education. “This project will enable us to save thousands of dollars a year in electrical expenses, while also reducing our environmental impact at no capital and operational cost to the school district.”

Xcel Energy, the school district’s utility, anticipates this to be one of the five largest solar electric projects in the state. All the schools will have roof mounted solar panels producing between 40kW and 104kW of electricity per site. The athletic stadium is slated to yield 90kW of electricity from a carport shade structure.

The Colorado project is being built for an estimated US$18.3 million with no capital, operational, maintenance, insurance, financing or ownership expense to the Douglas County School district taxpayers. The sites are presumed to be completed in nine months.
