ReNew Power claims to have reached two separate milestones with the commissioning of a 300MW PV project in Karnataka, southern India.

The renewable IPP said this week the plant at the Pavagada solar park is the first in India to feature high-efficiency mono PERC modules. The PV installation, according to ReNew, is also the largest the firm has ever commissioned.

As explained by ReNew’s COO Parag Sharma, the plant’s panels are equipped with seasonal tilt technology and string inverters.

The facility, Sharma continued, created 1,500 direct and indirect jobs while it was being built and will retain a workforce of over 100 now that commissioning has concluded.

The 300MW plant is one of a string developed at the 2GW Pavagada solar park, stretching across a site of 5,000-plus hectares in Karnataka’s district of Tumkur.

The complex is home to projects including already commissioned plants of Fortum (100MW) and Tata (50MW). Efforts to tender 1.2GW in the past two years have resulted in the arrival of new PV players, including Giriraj Renewables (150MW) and Asian Fab Tec (100MW).

As for ReNew, the firm claims to be India’s largest clean energy IPP, with a 3GW portfolio of both unfinished and finished projects. In recent weeks, the firm has raised US$375 million through a green bond issue and acquired two solar subsidiaries from fellow Indian player Suzlon.
