Struggling inverter manufacturer SMA has purchased Phoenix Solar’s European operations and maintenance business.
The company, which warned of a heavy round of impending job losses at the end of July, said the move was part of its strategy to develop its service business.
“After successfully establishing this business field in North America with 200 MW, we are now looking to develop the high-volume European market for SMA through the acquisition of the O&M business from Phoenix Solar,” said Pierre-Pascal Urbon, CEO, SMA. “We will continue to expand our O&M services in Europe and North America and thus benefit from our outstanding expertise and installed basis,” he added.
SMA will acquire Phoenix’s 18-strong European workforce and customers in Germany, Spain, Italy and France.
