PV developer SolarCity will add Barstow Unified School District (BUSD) in California, US, to its solar portfolio by installing 1.5MW of PV systems for the school district.

The solar installations will be built at eight BUSD facilities: Cameron Elementary School, Crestline Elementary School, Henderson Elementary School, Montara Elementary School, Barstow Junior High School, Barstow High School, Central High School and the Barstow District Office.

The installations are expected to save the school district around US$112,000 in utility costs in the first year and around US$5.2 million over a 20-year period. Furthermore, Barstow will also benefit from the California’s net metering policy, which credits solar customers for the surplus renewable energy their systems send to the grid.

To date, SolarCity has completed or undertaken more than 300 solar projects for schools, community colleges and universities across the country.
