A 5.21MW rooftop solar project built by Switzerland’s largest supermarket chain, Migros-Verteilbetrieb Neuendorf, said to be the country's largest PV plant, is now grid-connected and fully operational.

More than 20,000 solar panels have been installed on the Migros distribution centre roof, an area nearly seven football fields large. Together they will produce around 4,836,000 kWh annually.

Migros used system suppliers, TRITEC, while Energiebüro Zürich was responsible for project development, planning, submission and professional construction supervision and commissioning. The rooftop took less than six months to build, Migros said.

“We are proud that we were able to use almost our entire roof area for solar electricity production,” said Hans Kuhn, director of the Migros “This will make an important contribution to the energy revolution.”

Migros already has five rooftop solar projects as part of its renewable energy strategy.
