The project is located in the municipality of Taltal, in the prime solar development region, the Antofagasta region.

Lalackama II spans 40 hectares and will produce 50GWh a year, enough to power the equivalent of 30,000 Chilean households. EGP has a contract to sell the energy produced to private customers.

The extension requires US$32 million and is EGP’s fourth PV plant development in Chile.

EGP is also completing construction work on its solar power plants, the 36MW Diego de Almagro, the 60MW Lalackama and the 40MW Chañares solar power plant.

Salvatore Bernabei, head of Enel Green Power in Chile and Andean countries told PV Tech more about EGP’s solar development work in the unique region of Chile earlier this year.

Chile’s solar PV plant is now gaining ground and its government has just released CLP780 million (US$1.3 million) to fund the early-stage development of 51 renewable energy projects totalling 740MW last month.
