OptiSolar plans 550MW solar farm for San Luis Obispo

California-based OptiSolar has contributed to the state’s aim of sourcing 20% of its power from renewable sources with the planned establishment of a solar power farm in San Luis Obispo County. Located on the northwest of the Clarissa Plains, the 550MW PV farm’s location was selected for its proximity to power lines, among other factors, and it will provide sufficient power to run approximately 190,000 average-sized California homes.

Construction on the development will begin in 2010 once approval has been established, while the solar panels will be installed on nine and a half sections of land over a three-year period. The generated power will be fed into California State’s electricity supply system.
