Project Focus: Sputnik Engineering commissions 8.6MW plant, largest in region

Sputnik Engineering has commissioned an 8.6MW PV plant, its largest to date, in Germany in the town of Gerwisch near Magdeburg; the system is also the largest in the region. The plant was connected to the country's medium voltage grid on December 14 by Sputnik's service technician Andreas Rittner.

The plant will be operated by Pegasus Vertriebs, based in Mainaschaff in greater Aschaffenburg. The company specialises in the construction of plants on open land, with capacities ranging upwards from 5MW.

The plant consists of 120,000 First Solar CdTe modules and 25 SolarMax 300 C central inverters, which are built into concrete stations. The operation is run by Sputnik's All-Round Carefree Package, MaxControl, with an integrated monitoring unit and a guaranteed availability of 97% annually, for 20 years.

The head of Sputnik Germany, Hans-Thomas Fritzsche, said, "I am extremely proud of how we and Pegasus were jointly able to realise the facility, which is Sputnik's largest open-land plant in Germany."   

Hans-Peter Knecht of Pegasus said, "The cooperation with Sputnik Engineering was very pleasant and benefited from a high degree of trust."

The official dedication of the PV plant is scheduled for February 2010.
