After entering discussions concerning two PPAs, Corporación Dominicana de Empresas Eléctricas Estatales (CDEEE) has signed on the dotted line enabling the state-owned utility to purchase output from two 58MW PV projects in the Dominican Republic.

The two projects, which received a combined investment of US$280 million, are due to come on-line in the latter half of 2013. They are located at opposite ends of the country; one is being built in Victoria, North Santo Domingo on the southern coast whilst the other is located in Guayubín, Monte Cristi, in the northwest of the country. They are being developed by Isofoton and Montecristi Solar FV SAS.

When construction is complete, Dominican Republic will have a total capacity of 146MW of solar energy.

Previously, in October 2011, the government-owned utility signed a 20-year PPA whereby Grupo de Empresas Dominicanas de Energía Renovable will sell 100% of its output to CDEEE for 19.96¢ per kWh. The power would be generated from a 54 MW PV project being developed in Monte Plata province in the Dominican Republic. Photon revealed that the first 200kW phase of the project began operation in July 2012 and is now the largest operational PV system in the Dominican Republic.
