Algeria has doubled its renewable energy target from 12 to 25GW by 2030, according to the state press agency APS.

Although not yet formalised, the country’s minister of energy and mining, Youcef Yousfi, said an official amendment to the 2011 energy plan would be made shortly.

The country has around 350MW of PV projects currently under development. A feed-in tariff scheme offers rates of around 16 DZD/kWh (US$0.20) for projects 1-5MW and a separate rate for those over 5MW. The precise rate depends on the project's anticipated output.

The FiT, launched in April 2014, is guaranteed at a flat rate for the first five years before the performance based rate kicks in for the next 15 years. It is targeting 800MW of installed capacity by 2020.
