Government officials and executives from CPS Energy, Duke Energy and juwi solar stood together as the Blue Wing Solar Project was dedicated in San Antonio, Texas. The 14MW solar installation, constructed on 113-acres using 214,500 thin-film solar PV modules, is claimed as being the largest solar project to date in Texas.  The Blue Wing Solar Project began full operation almost two months ahead of schedule and will generate over 26,570MWh of electricity per year.

“Blue Wing further solidifies our commitment to acquire affordable, renewable energy resources, while contributing to our community’s economic development,” said Doyle Beneby president and CEO for CPS Energy. “We are currently number one nationally in wind energy capacity among public utilities, and this project launches our venture into solar power, which will be pursued with equal effort.”

CPS Energy signed a 30-year PPA with Duke Energy Generation Services, where CPS will purchase all electricity produced at the facility over the agreed time. Duke Energy bought the Blue Wing project from juwi solar earlier this year, which had developed, designed, and built the solar installation.
