Germany’s skytron energy has installed a system for monitoring, control and remote supervision of a 10.32MW solar farm in Japan.

The plants are located on the island of Hokkaido and have an annual electricity generation of 11 million kWh – enough to supply more than 3,000 households with clean electricity.

The control system is connected to Japanese grid operator HEPCO’s distribution system using the cyclic digital data transmission (CDT) remote control interface of the farm’s service provider Ohkura Electric.

The solar farm is run by operator Pte.Ltd who praised the control system.

“We have relied on skytron energy’s proven technologies for years to monitor and control our power plants,” said managing director Thomas Gnefkow. “The advantage of the state-of-the-art monitoring system is to be found precisely in its modular construction, which allows the skycontrol power plant controller to be modified easily. Combined with the complete system solution– the intelligent combiner boxes, the data logger system, the weather and irradiation sensors and SCADA software – the company not only guarantees trouble-free operation, it also optimises the yields of our solar power plant.”

In fact, the 10.32MW project features the full skytron energy product range, including its Pro power plant controller, the skylog local data logger system, the intelligent ArrayGuard FH combiner boxes, the skyCONNi-Sun universal weather station and the PVGuard supervision platform. According to the company, this allows the entire power plant to be monitored optimally, and claims to guarantee maximum plant performance and top returns for investors.

In related news, skytron announced plans earlier this month to launch a Japanese subsidiary for the second quarter of this year.
