Suntech and Infigen Energy have filed documents outlining the companies’ intention to construct four solar energy farms in New South Wales, Australia. If provided with Government permission, the project is expected to cost AUD$780 million (US$792 million), reports Bloomberg.

The companies have applied for funding from the Australian government’s AUD$1.5 billion Solar Flagships program as the plants will cost an estimated AUD$300 million and AUD$180 million, respectively. Spokesman Richard Farrell at locally-based Infigen expects a decision on that funding in the first half of next year.

“Most renewable energy projects require a fair degree of funding,” said Farrell. “As you develop into utility-scale projects, you’ll need support from governments.”

The companies have also stated intention to build a 50MW, AUD$150 million farm at Manildra and a 50MW, AUD$150 million project at Bungendore. Infigen is also investigating a site in Mildura, Victoria.
