Curtailment of solar PV and wind has continued to increase in Chile last year and passed 6TWh, up 8% year-on-year, according to trade body, the Chilean renewable energy and energy storage association (ACERA).

The curtailment of solar PV and wind capacity in Chile has reached 3.2TWh as of August 2025, a slight increase from the same period in 2024.

Chile has curtailed a record 5,909GWh of solar PV and wind power in 2024, up 121% from the previous year, according to trade body, the Chilean renewable energy and energy storage association (ACERA).

Estimates for the whole of 2024, taking into account the numbers of 2023, would put curtailments of renewables at over 4.5TWh, said ACERA.

Chile has published details of its latest power auction, set to take place later this year and contract 5,250GWh per annum for 15 years.

Chile reached 1,840MW of installed solar PV by the end of May this year, according to the Chilean renewable energy association (ACERA).

Chile is set to add 1.5GW of new renewable energy capacity in 2017, according to Carlos Finat, the executive director of Chile’s renewable energy association, ACERA.
