Renewable energy developer Genesis Energy has reached a final investment decision (FID) on a 136MW solar PV project in New Zealand.

New Zealand’s Genesis Energy has announced plans to acquire and develop a 271MWp solar project in Waikato, on the country’s upper North Island. 

Genesis Energy and FRV Australia have mutually agreed to terminate their solar development joint venture while maintaining co-ownership of the 63MWp Lauriston solar PV power plant in Canterbury, New Zealand.

Genesis Energy has officially opened the 63MWp Lauriston site, which it claims is the country’s largest solar PV power plant.

Genesis Energy has added a 127MWp solar PV project to its portfolio, with the goal of securing 500MW of grid-scale solar by 2028.

Over 200MW of new solar PV capacity will be brought online in New Zealand following two new partnerships established in the last week.
