The Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has published the approved list of models and manufacturers (ALMM) for solar cells, which contains 13GW of annual nameplate capacity across six manufacturers.
India has nearly trebled its annual nameplate for solar cells from 9GW to 25GW between March 2024 and March 2025, according to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
Under this new domestic content requirement, solar PV cells based on crystalline-silicon technology would be considered to be domestically manufactured only if they used undiffused silicon wafers.
The Indian government has decided to relax the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) for two years, in a move to boost installed solar capacity.
