The Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has requested comments on the proposal to increase the solar PV module efficiency of the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM).

India has nearly trebled its annual nameplate for solar cells from 9GW to 25GW between March 2024 and March 2025, according to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

Under this new domestic content requirement, solar PV cells based on crystalline-silicon technology would be considered to be domestically manufactured only if they used undiffused silicon wafers.

MNRE divides CdTe thin-film modules into three categories: utility or grid-scale power plants, rooftop and solar pumping, and solar lighting.
