The Tume site covers 302 hectares with 282,000 solar panels. It is the first Ignitis Renewables project to use trackers and the company’s first site that it will maintain. “Expanding expertise within our team enables us to manage renewable energy assets more effectively, maintain high standards and secure strong long-term performance,” said Frank Oomen, CEO at Ignitis Renewables.
Ignitis Renewables is also developing a 215MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Tume site to be integrated with the solar facility.
The Lithuanian state-owned utility completed its first solar project in Latvia, the 94MW 110-hectare Vārme solar plant, in July 2025, at a cost of around €66 million (US$75 million), funded in part by a financing deal it agreed with Swedbank earlier in that year. The €77.5 million raised from Swedbank was earmarked for solar PV generating sites at Vārme and Stelpe in the Bauska municipality, the latter creating 145MW of generating capacity when it went live in August 2025.
Ignitis floated on the Nasdaq Vilnius and the London Stock Exchange in 2020, raising around €450 million from its IPO. In January 2023, it acquired an unnamed Latvian solar PV developer for around €213 million. At the time of the purchase, the unnamed entity had 300MWp of solar PV under development, which passed to Ignitis.
According to a statement Ignitis published in 2021, it also had the intention to acquire solar PV generation assets in Poland, although the controllers of those assets at the time were not disclosed.
