Trina Solar and Mitsui win 104MW project in Mexico auction

Major module firm Trina Solar and Japanese conglomerate Mitsui have won 104MW of capacity in Mexico’s third auction round.

The pair have confirmed that they will finance the plant in Zacatecas with Trina taking on development and construction responsibilities as well.

Power from the site and the associated Clean Energy Certificates (CELs) will be sold under a 15-year contract. The average price in the auction was US$20.57/MWh, according to Mexico’s National Centre for Energy Control (CENACE). The total expected investment for round three is US$2.4 billion.

“We are delighted to win an additional 104MWp solar project in Mexico, which will increase our presence in terms of development and construction activities in Mexico and in entire LatAm as well,” said David You, VP of Trina Solar and president of international system business unit (ISBU). “We will continue to focus on more solar and total solutions related businesses in Mexico and Latin America,” he added.

Trina Solar won a 133MWp project in Aguascalientes during the second round of the country’s auction.
