Taking a step forward for the advancement of solar energy in the residential sector is United Solar who has agreed to partner with NJR Home Services (NJRHS) and nationally launch Uni-Solar’s PowerShingle and CertainTeed’s EnerGen, which uses Uni-Solar modules. The pilot program in New Jersey will produce a solar product that is fully integrated and blends into the existing asphalt shingle patterns on the home, which is set to provide a more aesthetically pleasing design for homeowner’s.

“This pilot program is a real-world opportunity to showcase two new solar products for residential homes,” said Mark Morelli, President and CEO of United Solar’s parent company, Energy Conversion Devices. “Both products provide solar module aesthetics that overcome some of the largest objections to residential solar panels to date. This program will be an outstanding field test for UNI-SOLAR as we work with roofing contractors and residential end-users.”

NJRHS will install Uni-Solar’s integrated PV modules on around 30 homes under a solar lease program. The program ensures that NJRHS will provide the upfront installation and maintenance costs and then lease the solar panels to the homeowners for US$8.66 per kW installed. The average installation size is expected to be around 3MW with a fixed lease payment price of US$26 per month over a 20-year period.
