Solarfun Power Holdings, a manufacturer of silicon ingots, photovoltaic cells and modules in China, has announced the signing of an agreement between their subsidiary Jiangsu Linyang Solarfun and the government of Jiayuguan City, Gansu Province that will see the construction of a 100MW solar power plant. Solarfun will construct a module production facility in Jiayuguan City to accommodate the terms of the agreement.
Vice Mayor of Jiayuguan City, Jingchang Zhang, believes the city has taken a positive step, saying: "Jiayuguan is a famous tourist attraction in western China. Its abundant sunshine makes it an attractive location for solar projects. We have interviewed many solar module suppliers in China and are confident that Solarfun will be a good partner for our development."
"We continue to make progress in building a meaningful presence in the rapidly developing China market," Peter Xie, President of Solarfun, said. "We appreciate the opportunity to partner with Jiayuguan City towards their firm commitment to renewable energy development."
The project's beginnings will depend on financing, feasibility studies and further government approval.
