CNPV Solar Power has added to its list of product certifications with the news that it has passed external, independent testing and certification for ammonia and salt mist corrosion resistance to the 2PFG and IEC 61701 standards. The company has already gained TÜV Rheinland certification for similar environmental conditions.

Although the official IEC ammonia standard is at draft stage, the related approved test is the 2PFG test, which takes into account the existing standards for electrical systems, coating corrosion protection and sulphur dioxide contamination of metal surfaces, specifically, the ISO 12944, ISO 3231, ISO 6988 and DIN 50018 standards.

During the performance of these tests, modules undergo extreme concentrations of ammonia, and the testers log any resulting degradation, power loss and monitors retention of insulation properties. The salt mist corrosion test is carried out in accordance with IEC61701 ed 2, and involves the modules being subjected to high concentrations of salt mist, both on a continual and intermittent basis, to simulate real-world conditions. The modules also experience exposure to high temperatures and humidity; again, any degradation, power loss or insulation loss is logged and take into consideration for the modules’ certification.
