US solar giant First Solar and Indonesia’s PT. Pembangkitan Jawa Bali Services (PJB Services) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of 100MW utility-scale PV projects in Indonesia in order to meet the country’s growing energy demand.

“Indonesia has an increasingly urgent need for reliable, cost-effective energy resources. The agreement with PJB Services facilitates an ideal collaboration to provide Indonesia with the needed solution,” said Won Park, First Solar's senior manager of business development and sales in Southeast Asia.

“This MOU underscores First Solar's belief that the Indonesian market has great potential as a sustainable market where solar power can be a meaningful part of the energy mix.”

As part of the MoU, the companies have agreed to collaborate on the development, engineering, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance of several PV projects in Indonesia which have a total capacity of 100MW, including PV hybrid solutions. The projects will also utilize First Solar's advanced thin-film PV modules and related system services and components.

This agreement represents First Solar’s first MoU in Indonesia as well as the company’s first foray into the development of utility-scale PV plants for PJB Services. The MoU is also in line with First Solar’s strategy to forge strategic alliances in “fast-growing, sustainable energy markets worldwide”.
