Florida Power & Light Company has opened four new PV projects within the state — each with an installed generation capacity of 74.5MW.

The four new projects are as follows: FPL Barefoot Bay Solar Energy Center in Brevard County, FPL Blue Cypress Solar Energy Center in Indian River County, FPL Loggerhead Solar Energy Center in St. Lucie County and FPL Hammock Solar Energy Center in Hendry County.

Eric Silagy, president and CEO of FPL, said: “We are committed to advancing affordable clean energy – the right way. We are building some of the lowest-cost universal solar ever in the country, which keeps costs down for our customers. The completion of these newest plants demonstrates that it is possible to be both clean and affordable, bringing numerous economic and environmental benefits to our customers and the communities we serve.”

So far this year, FPL has completed eight PV projects within Florida — each with a generation capacity of 74.5MW. These eight installations are projected to generate more than US$100 million in total system savings for FPL customers during their operating lifetime — over and above the cost of constructing and operating the plants.

FPL is in the middle of one of the largest solar expansions ever in the US, with more than 3.5 million new solar panels added over the last two years.

From 2016 to 2023, FPL expects to install a total of more than 10 million solar panels. These advancements continue to improve FPL's carbon emissions profile, which is already approximately 30% cleaner than the US industry average.
