Renewable energy developer Hive Energy has sold four solar projects with a combined capacity of 267MW to German solar developer Juwi.

Located in Central Greece, the projects were acquired by Juwi’s Greek unit Juwi Hellas and developed to the ready-to-build status by Hive Energy. Juwi will begin construction in the first quarter of 2024.

However, the expected operational date of these projects has not been disclosed.

“This portfolio is one of the few in Greece at this stage of maturity and we greatly appreciate the efforts and the development work that has been carried out by Hive Energy to this effect. Juwi has supported Hive significantly during the past months as they advanced the projects to a ready-to-build status,” said Takis Sarris, managing director of JUWI Hellas.

Hive Energy said it had completed solar project deals in Italy, Spain, and New Zealand recently, with an overall sold and completed capacity of more than 2,700MW across seven countries. In July, it sold 200MW worth of Italian agrivPV projects to GreenIT, a renewable energy joint venture between Italian energy provider Plenitude and investor CDP Equity.

PV Tech Premium also explored emerging European solar markets in an article with a bigger focus on Southern Europe and dedicated features for Greece, one of the hottest solar markets currently in Europe.

Greece joined the likes of Spain, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands and France in the gigawatt-scale club last year, when it added 1.34GW of solar capacity in 2022 alone and now has a total capacity of 5.5GW. In a report published last year by trade body SolarPower Europe that featured a market outlook for European countries, the Greek trade association Hellenic Association of Photovoltaics Companies (HELAPCO) expected the country to reach a cumulative solar capacity between 13.6GW and 16.3GW by 2030.
