Colombia renewable energy company Celsia has started construction on its second solar farm in Colombia — which will be located in the municipality of Santa Rosa de Lima, in the department of Bolívar, and will have a installed generation capacity of 8.8MW.

Once completed, the project is expected to generate 15,542 MWh a year, which would provide power to some 7,400 homes within the country.

The installation will be developed by Celsia’s subsidiary, Epsa, and will feature 32,000 PV modules. It will be built on a 12-hectare site. During construction, an estimated 120 jobs will be created.

Back on 3 September 2017, Celsia and Epsa developed the first PV project in Colombia in Yumbo.

Julián Cadavid, leader of transmission and distribution for Celsia, said: “We hope to execute this project in less time than the one that was required for the construction of the solar farm in Yumbo, taking advantage of all the lessons learned.

“With Celsia Solar Bolívar we continue working on the goal of reaching 250MW of solar energy in Colombia and Central America, in addition to continuing with our national growth strategy in which the development of projects on the north coast of the country is very important.”
